I had been suggesting a deluxe or professional version of our application kit since mid 2013. In summer of 2014 I was given the go ahead and I began developing it. I didn't want this to look like every other nail or manicure kit out there, it had to differentaite. I needed to include better versions of the tools found in our origional application kit and new tools geared toward the gel enamel system we were also developing. In fall 2014 I went overseas, met with manufacturers, sourced samples and returned with eight pounds of various tools. The tools in the images below are a small sampling of those. I presented these tools to a focus group of 40+ women and asked what they would like to see in a deluxe kit at the price point we were considering. With that feedabck, the product began to take shape as a nine tool kit consisting of the following stainless steel tools; large nail trimmer, small nail trimmer, cuticle nipper, curved cuticle scissors, tweezers, micro texture file, cuticle pusher/spoon scraper combo and a two sided lacquer dotting tool.
Now that I had identified the tools, I set out to finish my search for the proper case. I had begun this process before sourcing the tool samples and was eager to find or develop a case that didnt look or function like so many nail kits that all looked the same. I wanted something that looked more like a classy zippered clutch, something with room that users could add other tools and items in. The examples you see below are just that, examples of material, color, fit & finish, starting points, not finished cases.
In the images below, you will see some of the tools I sourced and some of the kit case samples that I sourced samples of. I show the crystal nail file that I developed as an item that was intended to be sold as a three and five pack. At the end, I show the Deluxe Stainless Application Kit as it was finally launched in the fall of 2015. I left Jamberry in Dec. of 2014 and the product concept was scaled back between then and it's launch.
Most tools had two heads or tool ends. All items sourced in fall of 2014.
Sampling of clippers, nippers, tweezers & scissors
I was able to take any two ends and combine them into one tool an do that with multiple tools if needed. I was ready to custom build a set of Jamberry tools.
Part of the deluxe concept was having all the stainless steel tools have a brushed finish with the Jamberry logo laser etched. This kit had to set itself apart in every way from our other application kit.
Set of lacquer dotting tools in various dot sizes. I hated these handles and arranged to have these made solid stainless from tip to tip.
The crystal nail file was a product that I did all of the development on. It was never intended to be in the stainless steel kit and was an item intended to be sold as a three and five pack. Developed in fall of 2014.
All case samples were previously made for other purposes. Samples were sent by manufacturers to highlight quality, material, fit and finish.
Looking through enough samples, I could identify features I liked like closures, snaps, zippers, pulls, stitching, lining, inside pockets/dividers, rivets, textures, logo plates and so on.
Final case and tool assortment as it was launched in fall 2015
A bit thinned out from what was developed and it certainly looks like a nail kit.
I liked this tan sample clutch so much that I recommended we Jam it out and find a way to use it as an earned incentive or leader only item. I'm not sure if anything ever came of it but I thought it was a good idea at the time.
