This is my product concept art for nail lacquer stencils. I designed stencil dimensions specific to manufacturing processes and material tolerances. I chose and designed set of 12 stencil shapes for both positive and negative applications. I completed artwork, machine tooling, prototyping and on nail testing.
Cuticle oil. This image shows the progression of the development over the course of two years prior to being put in pens. 1) .5 oz amber bottle, white label, old logo. 2) .5 oz amber bottle, clear label with adhesion issues, old logo. 3) .5 oz clear bottle, new label material, new logo. 4) New .4oz bottle and cap design, cap had chipping issues, screened art, new oil formula. 5) Updated cap.
I took this product over just after launch (stage 2, summer of 2012) and would purchase the raw materials and do the batch blending myself. I sourced the bottles, caps and labels and managed all the filling, labeling and packaging.
For a time we had 1/8th oz size sample bottles. Due to economies of scale, those became cost prohibitive so I discontinued them.
I found and sourced these pens and spent several weeks testing them with oil using both a brush and doe foot tip. I also did testing to determine if nail lacquer could be dispensed from these pens, those results were negative.
Once I had validated the concept, the project of oil pens was passed off to another developer.
The other developer oversaw the branding of the pens through production and this product successfully launched. The brush pens also became the perfect applicator for cuticle remover as well.
